Here for rides.
Whatever they can be ( mis) sold by the bike place. The more expensive, with more bells and whistles the better.
Now there, hereabouts, I have to disagree. The really high-end stuff seems to be owned as Sunday Best Bike by serious cyclists rather than typical weekend warrior mamils.

Bloody posties, with their bright red pashleys, if only they would wear Lycra then I could define them more easily!!

Don't quote me on this,i have been retired ten years and eight days. But i think bikes we dumped a little time ago. They could not carry enough mail on them. Some have a trolley along with their bags. Here in our area two posties use one van.

In 2010, the Royal Mail decided to scrap their fleet of 24,000 bicycles in favour of trolleys and light vans. Only a few thousand are now left and they will all be phased out by 2014. CTC objected to the move because it puts other road users at greater risk and adds to emissions.

There are also plenty of other operators who recognise that bikes are an extremely efficient way to deliver post and other goods.

CTC opposed the plans at the time.Click photo to open further.

I remember when I was a postie for a couple of years there was a big red bike up the back of the sorting office. I asked if I could use it for my round instead of hanging around for ages waiting for the van. Big mistake. It was just a lump of pig iron painted red then twisted into the shape of a bike and it weighed a bloody ton. The brakes were more of an aspiration than any practical use. I got back from my first delivery exhausted and too late for my break to find my second delivery sorted and ready to go - and I'd missed the van. Never got finished until after 3 that day.

If it was an Elephant Bike it must have been made from the fossilised bones of three fat ones.

A while ago I would have said specialized or giant, but then I started to actually look at the frames I was riding past and though they are common it's mostly stuff models/brands hat I don't recognise.

What do people think is the most popular road bike for MAMILS? I bet its either a Cannonadale Synapse or a Giant Defy.Interested to hear other peoples suggestions.

I think it depends whereabouts in the land you are... down to a local level... it depends what the main brands are in the most popular shops.

Quite a few painted Ribble Jezebels round here.

Boardmans seem to be universally mamillised.

I don't actually see that many Giants being ridden except by people who are quicker than me. Which is, um, basically everyone.
