The Legendary Len Liggins has been a pal of mine since we met up at Leeds University. He's a thoroughly good bloke and is too modest for his own good. He's always shocked when I turn up to see the band. The furthest 'away from base' where I've seen them isKnockengorroch in Dumfriesshire.

They are doing a free gig in Leeds outside Jumbo records on 20th April. It's going to be a busy weekend: Frank Turner gig in Leeds then FNRttC York to Hull then back to Leeds for the Ukrainians.

Oops, missed your mention. I'd say gorgeous harmonies are a common thread through a lot of liverpool music.

Maybe my favourite gig ever was Arthur Lee backed by Shack, liverpool early 90s.

I wish I had seen that. I saw Arthur Lee with his new version of Love not long before he died, which was great, but it would have been wonderful with Shack.

And yes, I agree with you on Liverpool music. I'm amazed how generally underrated Liverpool music is these days, especially since British music in general is so dominated still by the memory of The Beatles. I love The Coral, for example, who although they got noticed at the beginning are pretty much invisible now despite turning out consistently excellent songs.

What about Liverpool's best ever band, Our Kid?

I hate The Coral, me. We were sat on the runway at Athens airport after a painful defeat in the European Cup Final but the plane couldn't take off until two passengers, whose luggage was in the hold, were found. It took a few hours, late, hot and very miserable, before the miscreants were located and deigned to board the plane. It was two of the cooking Foral! I've hated them ever since that.
