Judges have ruled Massa's lawsuit can proceed to a trial.

Hes not seeking to overturn the actual championship result, but wants a boat load of money and the formal right to call himself "the rightful 2008 world champion."

Win or lose there are inevitably going to be some interesting revelations.

The money I can understand. The ‘title’, no. Nobody can say how the season would have unfolded if crashgate had been dealt with at the time.

That's egos for you, and F1 drivers usually have huge ones.

Tres excitement!

Verstappen won at Las Vegas, Nowwis second and Piastri fourth.

However, both McLarens have been found to have planks worn beyond the legal limit, which traditionally means a disqualification. Theres a hearing coming up to,pick the bones outmof that one.

If that happens it puts Nowwis only 24 points ahead of Max, who is then level pegging with Piastri in second.

What was I saying a few days ago about Andrea Stellartois being stupid for bleating about a Red Bull engine change and taking his eye off the ball back at his own team? At such a crucial stage of the season with big money at stake for championship places and points hes an eejut for wasting time and mental bandwidth on anything that does not directly contribute to his own teams performance. Tonto can be the same, and Christim Horny was a master at manipulating that to his own advantage.

Speaking of which, fresh rumours of Horny going to Aston Martin, but not as TP. It would seem Stroll Snr is getting fed up with getting such a poor return on his considerable investment and may be about to give Andy Cowell the heave ho. He wants a kingmaker to take his place - Brawn has retired, Tango is committed to Merdedes financially and has arguably lost his grip anyway, leaving Horner as the only such candidate from the modern era. So CEO with a potential financial stake in the team (he has backers for thst, allegedly), would be interesting to see what happens if it came true. Hell, thr off track shenanigans can be as interesting as the racing!

That would be double interesting from a future driver perspective. Im sure Max wouldn't persknally have a problem with either AM or Horny, bjt we can be pretty sure the latter wouldn't want Jos within a mile of the place. And would Horny have the juice to get Stroll to drop Lance and get a decent wheel man in? Piastri perhaps?

More news. Minimum plank thickness is 10mm, both cars were worn "below 9mm" so a significant breach. Its not my decision of course, but I cant see them escaping a double DSQ for such a clear cut breach. After Hamiltons DSQ for the same offence in China theres no way the stewards cant disqualify them without creating a s***storm from Ferrari.

I can hear the conspiracy theorists now - “the FIA are handing Max the championship (again)”.

It's a shame they werent making a fuss when Lewis got disqualified for the same thing.

Both drivers were instructed to lift and coast at the end of the straights. It clearly wasn't needed for tyre wear purposes or fuel conservation, the suggestion being McLaren had an idea the ride height was dicey and they were trying to limit plank wear.

I don't think Max will take the title, but I'd never rule out a driver with such prodigious talent. I think it's a fairly safe bet he will take second, and make McLaren look like prats. If theyd paid more attention to their own game and ceased interfering with driver positions they might have had a one-two. These little failures don't mean much in isolation, but added up they come back to bite.

If Max takes second by a wide margin itll be embarrassing for McLaren. Potentially even worse, if he takes it by the number of points or less (3 points or less) than Piastri lost at the Italian GP when Piastri was ordered to let Norris pass following the latter's slow pit stop there will be some very tightly clenched teeth in the Piasti camp.

It does make the season end quite spicy. I predict McLaren will lose the 1-2, although may still cling on for the WDC.

if I was minded that way i'd be inclined to theorise that that current lot would be more interested in having an exciting fight to the final flag to maximise ratings and social media posts than anything else.

These days success seems to be measured more by that sort of thing than anything else

My take on the plank issue is that it should be the teams that suffer a penalty not the drivers as i doubt they made the decision on actual ride height .

Carrying on a different type of motorsport since last Thursday till earlier today has seen the Running of the Roger Clark Rally which i have been glued to and boy it's been a fantastic event and right down to the wire and personally much more interesting than F1

Unfortunately leaving less of a gap between the floor and the tarmac gives an advantage to the driver hence the driver, though an unwitting accomplice, gets the penalty.

Possible, but the driver can increase wear by his driving style. On the kerbs for instance.

WHich is possibly why Lando was told to back off for the last few laps

possibly - or maybe something else such as fuel or just they wanted him to secure second an not take risks
Quite possibly the fuel sampling led to a greater interest being taken in the cars.

If you saw Norris in the Lego car, going from pits to podium, he was wearing the look of someone who knew something was wrong. Sat there, between Russel and Verstappen.

Not likely the be a fuel issue if they ordered him to go and hunt down Max (which apparently made Marko laugh when he heard it over the radio, as by then Lando had more chance of catching an STD before the end of the race.)

Either way, they fluffed it. The conspiracy theorists can moan all the want, but micrometers don't lie and McLaren themselves were invited to confirm the measurements and, probably grudgingly, agreed they were accurate.

Meanwhile, us relatively impartial observers, fans of the sport armlarge rather than individual drivers, get to enjoy a championship that might go down to the final race.
