It's not in Accrington so that is a huge positive, I'd be depressed in no time if was re-located West of Skipton. Get out of Accrington! West will be better (no doubt) but East is where "life" is, along the Aire Valley, great cycling which can be as flat or as hilly as you like, an affordable area? Shipley, adjoined to a world heritage site (Saltaire) with art and culture abounding and only 20 mins on the train to Leeds.

If you got homesick, god knows why, you are only 30/40 miles (but another world) away. Cycling from Leeds to Chorley the other week along was like going from Shangri-La to Hell.

There was a thread on here a few years ago which asked members if they liked where they lived and where they would rather move to if not.
The overwhelming responses showed that most people liked the status quo despite living in places that many others regarded as less than ideal, shall I say.
I was impressed by how many happily made the best of whatever situation they found themselves ending up in. We don't all have the luxury of choice for a wealth of reasons.
Think hard before jumping ship Accy.

There's one major shortcoming with living in a coastal town: 50 percent of the map is water, meaning you can only ride in mostly one direction and if the wind is strong you can't pick a route that takes you out against and back with the wind. In the case of Blackpool it's mostly south-westerlies.

Living just north of Blackburn on the edge of the Ribble Vally we have a similar problem in that south of us is nasty busy suburban roads so we can only really go north, west or east.

I've been doing that for quite a few years. But why make do with something past its sell by date when you are offered the chance of something new?

I noticed that with the club runs i went on. West to Garstang,Catforth Knott End. East to Faizor,Settle and Ilkley and north to the Trough of Bowland on to Lancaster, but never south. I suggested once or twice that we could/should head south towards Rochdale and beyond, but the others seemed a little apprehensive about heading that way.

Barnet,
I'm thinking that riding from St Annes to Fleetwood and back regularly would be ok. It must be around a 20 mile trip and with the wind affect i suppose it's better than nothing. Imagine what it'd be like in summer though with all those tourists getting in the way.
The Back bit of your ride would be the best bit. Last time I went to Fleetwood, there was nothing there except the undercover market. Got on the next tram out.

Yeah,Fleetwood is a bit run down these days. The last time i went was about 12 years ago. I noticed that quite a few pubs and shops had been boarded up. That was on a nice summers day. I don't think it'll be a nice place in the middle of winter!

If you really want to feel depressed go and have a look at Rossall School; it's on the front between Blackpool and Fleetwood and really grim.

Just about the only redeeming feature of that area for a cyclist is the ability to ride along the front between Lytham and Fleetwood, taking in the fascinating marina at Skippool and using the ferry to Knott End to make it a round trip, You can do the trip clockwise if the wind is southerly and anti-clockwise if it's northerly and you get blown along the front at a great speed, which is completely flat and bright and airy.

And yes, we never venture down south into the badlands of Rawtenstall, Bury, Rochdale, Darwen, Bolton because the traffic is terrible, the roads in bad condition and you receive abuse from mouth-breathers in vans and economy hatches.

What's depressing about Rossal School or that area ? The school ? The sea ? When the last time you went there ?

Would it be any higher than here? I thought it depended on the size of the property, not the location. I'm looking at one bedroom flats,so it'll be their lowest rated band surely.
I had a tiny flat in Cornwall that was a band B. This flat is bigger and a Band A. It depends on the perceived value.

If I were you, I would move. Then, I like a bit of adventure.
You can always move back if you hate it. I would go in a heartbeat, having read some of the stuff that you have been through, with the bullying and whatnot. New start and whatnot, plus your brother is there so that must be a good thing? :okay:

Ahh,the mysterious Mrs Cheetham lived there . She was one of my grandma's friends. We never saw her though. My uncle who lived with my grandma (his mum) used to run 'grandma' over there to visit her. My dad said she was worth a bob or two so he (uncle) was keeping her warm, as they used to say. In all those years we never saw her though. When we went on holiday to Blackpool in the 1960's me and my brother always asked if we could go to Rossal and see her,but it was quickly hushed up. A bit like one of those soap operas or comedies where someone lives upstairs but they're never shown.
