It was built in the 50s when the airwaves were much less conjested. The site belongs to Manchester University and was chosen because it is the nearest bit of flat land close to Manchester (20 miles or so) that did not suffer with light polutionStill back on the Munich police in shorts and balaclavas.
I would guess Jodrell Bank would maybe have been put in an area of less radio pollution, like optical observatories are in areas of less light pollution.
