Went into Oban for some flower seeds in Homebase and got a bag for behind the seat on the latest trike from the LBS.
Back for lunch and then out on trike as still dry and settled looking. Still quite a bit of snow lying around tho’ and not been so cold while cycling for a long time.
Checked out the Moss Road where the surface is getting a bit rough. The whole area is getting very posh suburban rather than rural with fancy enormous houses being constructed and one with a notice saying no stopping or turning. No Union Jack flag which often goes with such notices.
The road does go past a working garage business where for a while they had a life size statue of a saint or perhaps the Virgin Mary. Cannot remember which.
A potential thief was checking out the premises one night and suddenly realised he was being watched by this entity in the dark. Got such a fright he sprinted to the nearest police station for protection.

Edit to add the statue came in the bucket of a digger they had hired out and the hirer had forgotten about it being still there when returning the machine.

I have come to the conclusion I must be the only one who doesn't feel the need to get out the log table and slide rule and do several pages of mathematical calculations before heating something in the microwave.

While slide rules and logs were common when I was a student i suspect most nowadays would have no idea what you were talking about.

I also have no inclination to use calculus and integration to work that out. If you were not so far away, we could go out for coffee (or tea) and cakes while they do their calculations. We can just try to calculate who has got the bigger slice of cake. ^_^

I was good at maths until the lessons on integration and differentiation. One of them got a WTF response - in simple terms it seemed to be a case of guessing at the answer and working back to the question. Maybe I got that wrong but it was a brick wall I never got beyond.

Errands all erranded.

Bought two paperback books in "The Works" for the parental unit's Mother's Day pressie - one about the fellow who was the photographer of Auschwitz, and the other about the story behind a chap who hid all his Nazi stuff inside his sofa, and it was only discovered after his death. Card also acquired. With a cat on, of course.

Had a browse in the jeweller that sells a decent selection of watches. They're a stockist for Mondaine. Funny though, the second hand on the quartz version just ticks through like any other quartz, but the sweep second on mechanical one actually stops for two seconds at top dead centre before continuing. I actually quite like them, but new, they're a tad spendy.

Did a quick fizz around Tesco. I couldn't get any loose leaf tea today, nor could I get the own brand breakfast cereal I wanted. For the latter, I always keep about half a dozen different boxes in, and operate on the one out, one in principle. Irritatingly, the malted wheats (own brand shreddies clone) are my faves. Nothing at all worth taking on sticker. The few trays of stewing beef only had something stupid like 50p taken off them, there were only half price cut daffs in the fresh produce section, no bread at all, and the green bins only had beer and vegan mayo.

Now sat by the fire with a :cuppa:

The cats will have to wait till I've finished that before I feed them. And then I shall feed me.

My observations at this theatre tell me the idea of saving paper by not printing tickets is negated by the amount of people walking around clutching A4 pages with barcodes printed on them. Why not just show it on your phone like I do?

The cynic in me suspects the lack of tickets has nothing to do with COVID or paper savings and everything to do with saving money.

I must put my hand up to making a paper copy of rail tickets. I do cut the actual ticket section from the A4 sheet. It's a belt and braces thing in case my phone goes on the blink.

Possibly because they have tried that it and it failed - it was the clerk at the post office who resolved the issue for my phone by asking me to increase the brightness - most people have their mobile set at brightness level at which bar code readers fail to recognise the code.
