It was a glorious day after a very slightly damp start but I didn't find time to get a ride in as I was doing some gardening chores for my mother which seemed to be much more than originally asked - "While you're here, you may as well..."

I also replaced the battery in my keyfob thing so now the remote central locking works on the Yaris and I have finally joined the 21st Century!

Since it was such a nice evening, I decided on a quick drive to the beach for a walk and some relaxation. Someone had the audacity to sit on the rock at the corner of the beach where I like to sit and ponder, meditate and watch the sun set. :evil:That's always the problem with good weather, it brings people to all my secluded beauty spots I like to visit. It is better if they go back to sitting in a traffic jam queuing to go to Homebase or somewhere to buy things they probably don't need!

That fee, imposed by the banks, was known about before the retailer got the machine(s). And has been there from the start, they were never supplied with free use.
The rise over the last few years of people paying by card, has been taken by many as a means of passing on their charges for something they want to use. There's not many will tell you it'll cost extra to use cash as a payment method because the banks charge them for using cash.

Now the market is full of card payment systems you don’t even need a machine in some cases.
Shops are free to shop around for cheapest fees and ones best suited to store set up. The big banks no longer have the market.
What many don’t factor in or gloss over with cost of cash is extra staff time cashing up, bagging it up, taking it to the bank or cash in transit cost. Before that you've get costs having to collect or get delivered After all card payments are not going away. Why any business want to put barriers to customers willing to spend money is beyond me.
We went to a cafe that said cash only they said it was because of data black spot. Our phones work just fine. Oddly they also accepted bank transfers which then got you thinking. They can’t have that bad a connection as they must check you’ve paid them.

Worked in a small shop that took either cash or card payments. Both had to be fully checked at the end the of the day. A receipt for every transaction, matching each payment taken and card type.
Cash was counted by denomination type. Scottish notes, not supposed to be accepted, were counted and recorded separately. Float removed for the next day, with the rest bagged up for banking the following day. You could be walking with a few hundred when quiet to a few thousand at busier periods. Sometimes coming back with change for the day ahead. Trips solely for small change weren't unusual, at any time.

The point being that if you were to ask for extra to use cash to make a payment wouldn't last very long. With cards you can expect to see signs saying "minimum transaction £**" to cover the cost, or have an additional fee levied.
The cost of using cash was 3.9% at the bank ten years ago, but it was never added onto the sale as a payment type fee.

Talk of cash reminds me of a time when I was involved with coop. One of my local stores the van broke down. They contacted the store and arranged with the manger to pick the days takings later that evening. The manger told them only the night staff would be on duty by then. The only safe they had access to was the night one. Which normally had a few 100 quid in it for change over night. Also if they got turned over no great loss. So the store manger thinking it was not going to be long before it got picked up put takings in it. Next morning the manger asked if they’d collected the takings. She got told they’d not been. So if they had been turned over they’d have got lucky that night. It had more than £15,000 in it.

Welcome to my overcrowded world. We are supposed to welcome such intrusion.

I was having trouble trying to remove a left hand BB cup yesterday. I've never known one to be seized before . In the end I resorted to using a hammer and chisel to get it to move . I don't think I have managed to get it to rotate half a turn yet . It's a bu993r!

When I get one of those I take it to the in-house car workshop for their compressed air wrench to deal with.
