Who says you can't get manufacturers claims.
Mazda 3 2.0 petrol, I believe extra urban claim is 60mpg
This was 20 miles from start on cold engine, 15 miles of motorway at 60 mph ish, got a bit busy in town. I was sat at 60.7 mpg but the last 2 or 3 miles scrubbed it back.
Steady and careful driving tbf

Had a lovely luncheon of a sandwich with coronation chicken, plus an apple, an orange and two :cuppa:

Gutted that Ronnie is out of the snooker. He just didn't have any luck this afternoon, but all credit to Luca Brecel, he played as good as I've ever seen him play.

Got a good chunk of writing done as well. That research piece is done bar the last handful of paragraphs, then all that's left is to tidy up the references, hunt for the ones that I know I have but can't quite put my hands on, create a graphic with the timeline of events and drop all the photos in.

Have just had a :cuppa: and a Portuguese custard tart. Shared the latter with the girls, as they are very fond of the filling.

I consistently get more mpg than the manufacturer's claim of 61.4 for a Honda Jazz hybrid. Today's 60 mile drive back from Maldon gave me 80mpg. But then I prefer to keep everything relaxed and don't get frustrated travelling at truck speeds.

Been a really nice day with sunshine and light wind tho' still very cold.
Got out on trike with not too much traffic to bother me.
Stopped to do some seat adjustments and one of my ex outworkers appeared testing a new Swytch e assist she had fitted to her bike. Very pleased with it and we had a long chat by the roadside as she got psyched up for a really steep hill. She passed me later and shouted over that she had got up no bother.
One problem I can see with the Kettwiessel Evo Steps is that using the switches wearing thick gloves would be a major problem so if I survive till next winter I will have to try thinner gloves tho' I do suffer in cold weather with very cold and painful fingers. Auto is no use as it always puts me in a higher gear than I prefer so manual changing is essential.
The gardening I did yesterday seems to have badly affected my back as I felt it at the time I was working but thought it would go away. Sadly it has got worse and paracetamol does help but I need to check to see if the cocktail of meds I am on permits that.

Hope you feel better soon @oldwheels

Thanks for that. My back has been a niggling problem for a long time but bearable. Did for it years ago unloading a trailer full of horse dung but fortunately a neighbour came to my aid and unloaded the trailer for me. A youth spent farming and lifting heavy loads probably started the problem.

Hmm, I like to keep moving at a good rate of knots, but the trick is to avoid standing on the brakes or on the throttle too much. Smoothness and watching the road ahead is the key. And having your tyres at the recommended pressures.

I always kept mine about 10% above recommended. No discernable effect on handling, never made any great difference to tyre life either (22k miles out of my former Astra front tyres, which I think is generally ok)...
