Rain abated long enough for a 2.5 mile walk post work at home to Aldi for a bag of oranges which transpires into a £13 spend.

Poured rain most of the days so only got out as far as the bin.
Calmac seem to have leased a vessel from Pentland Ferries but that is according to the BBC which is a point I had better not pursue any further regarding the veracity of that statement.
Nothing on FB so the local ferry bods have not got anything yet.

We tend to be a bit obsessive about two main subjects ie ferries and the weather as both have an impact on our everyday lives.
Wind and direction impact on the ferry service which in turn has all sorts of side effects.

Does have something to do with living on an island.
Being in a rain shadow area tends to contribute the weather
The touroids are just part of the paradox. You live in a nice place and people want to come and look at it.
The saying is "the thing that makes you rich will make you poor "
Have to see rich and poor in the broadest possible terms.

So far as weather is concerned in this northerly corner we often have different weather from the general pattern. Also there tends to be a big difference in rainfall between north and south with the south end having much less rain. There is a narrow bit of the island about 10 miles away in a southerly direction and that is often swept by rain coming in from the west when we are completely dry and sunny.

The american meaning of hoe is different to the British, here its just a garden implement.

When I visited America I was chatting to a neighbour of my step son .The conversation turned to garden implements and said said he uses a weed eater for trimming round trees and edging. What’s a weed eater I asked He went to his shed and came out with a strimer.

Google has just thrown up numerous press articles on it. For example
https://www.heraldscotland.com/news...pay-1m-month-charter-emergency-vessel-calmac/

I did subsequently find lots of references but the local ferry committee has yet to comment and I never believe anything I hear on BBC without other confirmation.
I doubt that it will be be used on our routes and more likely on the Clyde area. Cannot understand why they did not go for the Pentalina which has been tested on all our local routes with success.
We are looking at a summer of chaos with two small vessels without the capacity for the infestation we seem to get nowadays.
There is an element of nostalgia I suppose but they really were the good old days with a reliable ferry service with the capacity to cope with the traffic. There were problems but they were caused by inadequate roads as my job then was involved with getting large lorries on and off the island.

Have enjoyed sailing the waters of the island. But I have also spent seriously wet days when the view was obscured.
