Screw fell out of the towel ring in the bathroom. One of those fancy ones, where the screw is hidden at the bottom.

Just couldn't get the screw to thread, so turned the ***!!$$** thing the other way up. Now the screw won't fall out!

those are wicked annoying. our freezer door handle is loose & I need to get down on my back to tighten them up. hopefully I'll do it before one drops out & rolls under the fridge

We're in a remote cottage in a Herefordshire wood with a Clearview log-burning stove. The instructions assured me that the temperature dial would be registering about 400F within about 20 minutes of lighting. It decided to die instead, despite all my frantic knob, flap and slide twiddling. Relit, it has managed to stagger up to 300F after an hour and a half of nerve-wracking attention.

I don't seem to be cut out to be a fearless eco-warrier, despite being in Herefordshire wood.

The best technique I've found, place 2/3 logs on the bottom, cover with kindling, then cardboard & finally lightly screwed up newspaper. Light the newspaper & allow to really burn before shutting the door.

We have a steel chimney & it tends to fill with cold air, resulting in a down draught, so I need to get the top of the fire warm quickly, otherwise the airflow is reversed.

I like to run our stove between 300/400, usually on the low side of that. It takes longer than 20 minutes tho'.

You mostly had a swing out hob or probably two to sit the pans or kettle on and this swung in or out as required. There was also a hook sometimes fastened in the chimney to hang pots from.
My grandparents had that latter device in the croft house which was a modern one and not the old thatched roof type.
My parents lived in a couple of houses with such cooking arrangements which were regarded as normal at the time.
I remember them well.

As I expected nowhere to park so just double parked on the street to go shopping. No problem unless a bus appears which is too wide for the gap left.
That is what we normally did in the good old days before the touroid infestation. Nobody locked their car and if you were blocked in you just moved the offending car out of the way.
I got a choice of toasters -- 2 slice or 4 and take it or leave it so I took a 2 slice one and now will certainly be able to fix my non working one.
New pharmacist seems to think I am gaga regarding my meds. I had to point out I was not responsible for any of it and was simply following a GP's written instructions. Mebbe the GP is gaga of course.

Mild, damp and grey here chez Casa Reynard. it rained a lot overnight, and it was a tad foggy early doors.

Slept well. Have had a quiet morning puttering around catching up with a few things. Busy afternoon ahead sorting out stuff. Need to do a tip run (good job I filled the car up with those tree offcuts yesterday afternoon!), fill the car up with fuel, pick up a few groceries and get some more credit for my phone.

Anyways, time to slope off to have luncheon - and listen to the F1 qually from Baku.
