It's been a mildish and grey day here chez Casa Reynard.

Slept well. Had a relatively busy and choresy morning. Made a big pot of red lentil & vegetable soup, sorted out a bunch of stuff for tomorrow, and put the unneeded cat carrier back in the garage.

This afternoon's tasks included picking tomatoes (they're still ripening, albeit rather slowly), hauling some firewood (it's getting too cool in the evenings not to have a bit of heating) and sorting out the edibles for tomorrow. Everything's done other than making some cheese & chutney sandwiches - I'm feeding the friend I'm travelling with, and the judge I'm stewarding for. Also washed my hair.

I still need to print out my stewarding paperwork, but other than that, I plan for a nice and relaxing evening.

Antibiotics were ready to collect at the Asda Pharmacy. Then to Sainsbury's for the chilled food I avoided yesterday, Waitrose to use a couple of app vouchers up plus scones and back to Asda for peas, being the next cheapest to the out of stock Morrisons, and coffee as currently being the cheapest. That took an entire lap of the store to find.
No yellow labels to be seen so full price scones and steak pie.

Lovely supper of red lentil & vegetable soup, then pickled herrings, cheese & chive mashed potatoes, and fried mushrooms. Could almost be a Christmas eve dinner!

It was a lovely day again. Nice spell of dry weather which is due to come to an end tomorrow night. I want to touch up a few bits of rust and apply some Waxoil or similar underneath my car tomorrow in preparation for winter. A good time to do it whilst it's nice and dry.

I am not a Pashley Guvnor owner. Collected it this evening. It's still in the back of the car. I'll sort it out in daylight. Very nice condition. Gears not quite right but I took a gamble on being only a cable adjustment issue. I must read up on how to adjust a five speed Sturmey-Archer. I'd have actually preferred a three speed as they're simpler.

Apart from that, it rides really well. It's lighter than I expected. Very smooth bike. I'll need to get the riding position to my taste. I probably won't use it much in the winter anyway as it has no mudguards.

The oddity is the half-link chain. What is the point?

An uneventful trip home including a free hot chocolate when I arrived at Ipswich thanks to a code from Octopus.

The contents of the overnight bag have been refreshed ahead of Sunday's away day and the bag is back by the front door ready. What I still need to decide is which train I'm catching. Since booking the ticket, Network Rail have decided to do more work on the Ely-Peterborough section and there's a rail replacement bus which means I'll get to Sheffield an hour later than planned. However there is an option of driving to Stowmarket (no public transport will get me to Ipswich in time and cheaper parking) and getting the earlier train from there which will put me back on schedule at Peterborough.
