Looks like I'm going to have to go out after all as the milk won't last out the day.

@postman - would a trike or recumbent be easier if you sometimes have vertigo?

And I need a cure / therapy for buying daft bikes to get back on the road *.

* Note that I have history here. At the age of 12 I built a Raleigh Chopper from a pair that friends had crashed and just put away. I also had a Bond Equipe that was a freebie via Practical Classics which was too far gone to restore (I remember collecting the day after Princess Diana had died and towing it down the A19 with SWMBO in the Bond. Which had no brakes, a loose seat and missing floorpan. At 20mph for 20 miles using a single tow rope as the second I'd attached failed - slowing by letting it roll into my rear bumper! She didn't speak to me for a few hours afterwards)

I had hoped for a new year's day ride as there was a gap in the frost in the weather forecast for today.

It may not actually be freezing but it is still very cold, and also quite stormy with horrendous showers thrown in. I got drenched on my perambulation this morning. My motivation for going for a ride is falling fast.

First ride of 2026, just 10 miles to kick off the year, and test out brushed fleece lined overshoes. Thumbs up from me.

Listening to the shipping forecast this morning, the announcer kept on repeating ''chilly wintry showers.'' It sounds like they got that one right. Though Scottish waters had a lot of ''snow showers'' predicted. Yet to be confirmed.

Shipping forecast trivia: they call it the shipping forecast before but the shipping bulletin afterwards.
