That is a formidable looking home. Almost a strong point, in case the Normans ever return, bent on conquest. Or cider.

That's the cow barn plus hay loft next door, which looks to have been unused for many years. But with some nice arrow slits for aiming at invaders coming down from the opposite hill. The view's south-facing though rather than north - there are similar empty barns on the other side facing north.

Too far north for cider, as it's up near Hadrian's Wall, although it's always worth a try. What there are is lots of hills for bike rides with virtually no traffic.

Are you taking commissions?

My arms are saying "no" at the present I'm afraid, at least for a fortnight.

Good morning. Clear blue skies in York.
Clear skies in York aren't much use when you're in Germany.

Good morning from Suffolk where it's another sweltering start to the day Coffee has been had after a very good night's sleep despite the conditions.

In true 'mad dogs & Englishmen' fashion, I'm going to put a bike in the boot of the car, cover my exposed bits in the last of the current bottle of suncream and head off to Norfolk for a ride. Plenty of liquid will be taken and the car's air conditioning will be turned down to minimum. Some bulky shopping will also be done on the way home and I have a back road diversion in my mind in case the eastbound A14 problems (I noticed a large ridge developing just before the Seven Hills interchange on Sunday) aren't fixed by the afternoon.
