ok but why is it fun to go to now? boardwalk? gift shops? restaurants? beach?

A fellow named Basil Brown , with little formal archaeological education, was contacted by the owner of the property, Edith Pretty, to excavate the mounds on her property, and what he found shocked the world with its beauty and complexity. Cahokia Mounds, near St Louis, was the largest city in North America beside Mexico City at one time, those are also some interesting sites as well. Such places are much more than meets the eye, and they have rewritten the history books.

A most un-summer-like day. Wind and rain.

For once I had a productive day and am nicely on top of things at work.

After work, my work bench is nearly completed. As I've no power in my shed and no long extension lead at present, I drilled some bolt holes with a brace and bit that's been lying around home for about 5,000 years. I think my bit might need sharpening. It would be easier to drill a hole with a a loaf of bread!

I must work out how to sharpen them.

I think there is a gadget called a Drill Doctor that would work out well. Otherwise, a file and some talent and application can do the job.

Twist drills are pretty easy to sharpen on a grindstone if you pay attention to the angles.

These are auger bits. I'd imagine a flat needle file and patience is required. They're probably just carbon steel rather than HSS as they're only meant for wood. The threaded point that should help pull it into the wood is well worn too and not much I can do about that.
