Good morning from Suffolk where it's a mostly sunny and a bit breezy start to the day - let's see what it's like on the Northamptonshire/Buckinghamshire border in a few hours.

Coffee has been had and a small bowl of porridge is about to be nuked for breakfast ahead of the drive to spend the day at Silverstone. Just got to make the usual flask of coffee and a bottle of orange squash, pack the food in the small cool bag and remember to get a tank of diesel on the way out.

No meatings b4 dinner!
i am arranging a treasure hunt for my grandchildren this afternoon.

There are some large model lions dotted around central London - something to do with the world cup football. We will split into teams and see how many we can find.

After that we will head to the Guildhall to watch the Nocturne.

It's still breezy but at least there's a feel of summer getting on its way. Some shopping to do so I'll have to assess my fitness levels today. Can I do it on the bus or take the easier way there by car?

Then I might waste time watching the T20 match from Old Trafford, Ireland women v Scotland women. Then, this evening, the Swiss wing of the family gets their World Cup underway tonight. Hopp Schwiiz and all that, has to be done.

I remember the old first division ones! IIRC they also included the Scottish top flight too.

I think you well may be right, something hazy in the mind springs to life. Do you remember the coins (tokens) that were given away with Esso petrol, for a world cup I think ?

@Jenkins it's a nice day just a bit breezy so watch out for wind burn , but enjoy

First thing I noticed when I got here was the breeze that was straight down the back of my neck when at the usual spectating spot if the terracing on Luffield exit. May need an umbrella as a windbreaker for the afternoon's racing.

Plenty of temporary grandstands and hospitality structures being put up ahead of the Grand Prix.

@Illaveago leaves Suffolk for home and we have the best day of weather for a week here in Suffolk. Coincidence?

He puts the order in for good weather too late. Perhaps it will set it up nicely for next week ? It feels pretty chilly out there this morning and there they were saying we were going to get warm weather this weekend. Now, where did I leave my crystal ball ?

The red arrows did a fly over earlier on the way back to their base .

Lunchtime stroll to town and back has been travelled.

Time for some lunch and then Le mans

Back in the 70's the Red Arrows aircraft were serviced at Bruntingthorpe* Airfield near Lutterworth and every year they did a practice display over the airfield and our school, those in the know will remember Lutterworth was where 'Powerjets' (Frank Whittles company) was located in an old Foundry.

* Bruntingthorpe was a 'Cold War' aerodrome and several Vulcans and Victors were based there, famous for its 2 mile runway it is where the last Vulcan XH558 was kept and then restored, it was also where the Handley Page Victor XM 715 made it's brief 'unplanned' flight on the 3rd of may 2009 during a 'Fast Taxi' run.
