Accy has a Vauxhall Adam now.

All Day At Mechanics.

Didn't it's namesake, Adam of Adam & The Ants keep conking out too?

It's the 'coil pack', or something like that. A bloke from the dealer/garage I bought it from came round today with his 'diagnostic computer'. Firstly he said it wouldn't fire up again when I managed to get it home the other day, after asking if I put the clutch down before turning the ignition, with me saying no I didn't. Now he mentioned it, it does say something about doing that on the dashboard screen. I'm taking it in tomorrow to have a new coil pack fitted, so hopefully fingers crossed it should be ok after. 😉👍

That's a fairly standard failure these days, so once sorted it shouldn't rear it's ugly head again

It was as if someone had suddenly pressed my break pedal down to the floor! There I was doing about 30mph, then a sudden slowing down, followed by very little power/acceleration. Silly me should've headed for home, but instead drove to my intended destination thinking it'd be a slight blockage in the fuel pipe that'd free itself after a while. I could only do 18mph maximum and that was in second gear. Every now and then there would be a sudden upsurge in power, then it'd lose power. I managed to make it home, not stopping to turn the ignition off then back on, thinking that might've helped. Thankfully I didn't as when I parked up in my usual spot I turned the ignition off then on trying to fire my car up again there was nothing at all! I phoned the dealer where I bought the car, with him saying he'd get a mechanic to phone me back, but he didn't do. What could be the problem?! The car is under warranty till the 23rd of September, by the way.

It still happens every now and then. Even the seller/garage who diagnosticly tested it couldn't find anything wrong. It happened again this afternoon, again not going more than 18mph no matter how much I put my foot down. I decided to type into You Tube 'My Vauxhall Adam suddenly goes slow and won't go above 18mph'. On looking at the following video I think this might be the problem. After watching the below video I pressed the button as advised and saw my car had a speed limit of 18mph showing. Yes, I know it's been doing much more than 18mph, but maybe the 18mph setting kicks in every now and then. Anyway, I've now set the maximum speed to 70mph. Let's see if it solves the problem!🤔

Is it still running smoothly and just stopping at 18 mph. Make sure you aren't toggling on the speed limiter - I have an extra 'stalk' with the cruise and speed limiter on it - could you be catching the switch that activates it, or indeed have it switched on.

If it's still running rough, could be another coil pack as they tend to fail with age (it's the electronic bit that sits on the spark plug - the modern equivalent of the HT leads).
