Hi all, has anyone here had any dealings with a cycle shop in Ripon north yorkshire called MOOGLU?

I joined my companies cycleshceme, this company was on the list to use, I went to see them and thought they were very stand offish and judgmental towards me I wanted advise on everything from bikes to gear, the guy in the shop didn't seem bothered because I only wanted to spend defy5 money! I instantly took a disliking to this chap, needless to say I'm still getting my bike and accessories from him!!! Should I push to get some freebies? Cheers all

Funny isn't it, I only had about £700 to spend on my first road bike a few years ago, I went in to my LBS and had a look at what I could afford and closed in on the Defy. My wife (who was buying me the bike as a present) tried to arrange me a fitting and was basically told, as it was a low end bike, I was not a schedule priority "I would have to wait".

We were both pretty outraged and i called back and had a right go, I said " All customers should be treated equal, whether they are buying an energy bar or a carbon fibre bike" I protested.

They apologised.

I stuck with the shop, I don't know why really, I guess they had what I wanted, they were near and convenient.
I probably ended up spending over a grand in the end so was an OK customer.

I hate snobby bike shops and I don't put up with it.

PS, It is still my only Road Bike

Our LBS was busy recently. I was buying a new chain, but it was lunchtime and the only staff member there was with a customer.

Damn and blast.

Except he said "Sorry mate I'll be with you as quick as I can. Go have a coffee and I'll be with you in 5 minutes."

What with all the biscuits I ate I don't think they made a profit, but rather than just blanking me because he was with a punter spending big bucks while I was spending pennies, he took a few second out to ensure I still left a happy bunny event though I had to wait a few minutes.

the cycle scheme I'm in at work only really allows me to go to certain cycle shops, and the next nearest is 17 miles away
If that's the case, the shop needs to shape up and honour the partnership! I wonder if the owner/manager has any idea how this staff member is treating people - if indeed, that wasn't him that you met. Worth taking up with your cycle scheme people - and if that wasn't the owner you saw, writing to the owner. It's worth it because otherwise you have to go 17 miles out of your way!

A long time ago a guy came into the bookshop where I was working and asked if we could get some books for him, they were pretty obscure titles and all came from publishers offering low discount, I ordered them. I later discovered that WH Smug had more or less told him to sling his hook so the guy was pleased at the service we offered. For the next year or so he came in late on a Saturday and spent £30 - £40 at each visit, he probably uses Google now but what he would do is read a book then order the bibliography for future reading - a real fanatic.
So my advice to any owner of a bike shop is: be aware of the N+1 phenomenon as someone buying a cheapo today may well have 4 Pinarellos and 16 wheels (all bought from you) in his garage three years from now.

Cost to him (ex bikkies) in doing this....nil. Result....happy customer. Doesn't seem like rocket science but it amazes me how infrequently this seems to happen when I visit any shop, not just LBS
