Is that the lime trees road Tesco? If so there are loads of railings which you could use. I used to always lock my bike to the railings to the left of the front door as you go in. Or alternatively to the trolley park to the right of the door. I liked the one infront of the door because there's usually a member of staff in the doorway.

I have boycotted Txxxx after they failed to respond to various approaches I made regarding cycle stands at their nearest store to my home. What really really annoys me is the fact they seem quite unaware of my boycott and appear to be thriving.:sad:

Every Lidl helps;)

I would never darken Tesco's thresh hold with my shadow. IMO they represent everything that is unfair, unreasonable and unethical in the world, but people still shop there ......

I don't go there very often, but my local Tesco's removed the concreted in cycle stands to also make space for another trolley park, so I complained. When I went back a month or so later, to their credit, they had put some replacements in, but they were just some free standing units which weren't concreted down!!

I had another rant, but haven't been back since.

The most secure place is simply to look your bike to the side of the trolley park near the door.

Exactly! I've been reading this thread with a mounting sense of disbelief that some muppets are whining about there being no cycle lockups when supermarkets usually have all kinds of infrastructures like railings and trolley parks, to which you can lock a bike. The thread stinks of indignant, self-righteous wounded pride, everything that irritates the Public about cyclists and reinforces their perception of cyclists as a nutty, militant minority.

Just go there and GET ON WITH IT! FFS!

(Or shop online, get the shopping delivered and save much more than the £5 delivery charge because you won't pick up all those 3 for 2s and unwanted promotions that you'll end up throwing away.)

The bullion dealer in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter doesn't have anywhere to lock up a bike.

But there is a nice wrought iron railing across the road outside Bicknell's Diamond Shop.

Everybody can improvise, we've all done it. A miniscule fraction of the millions of quid profits have been put aside to make cyclicts/pobs look like some grubby underclass because you don't bring the storage capacity of a car boot with you for all those bogofs.

Yes it is I have been known to lock it to the railings of the trolley park (in fact in the original photos that what I did - used the new trolley park railings). I don't have a problem with using what is available. But I object to the fact that they now have poorer provision for cyclists just to apparently stop heat escaping from the building (good point) and that customers had complained about dust (I doubt it).

Plus it used to be 3 sheffield stands there and I repeatedly went in and asked them to increase the number of stands due to arriving and the racks being full. I was really pleased when it eventually went up to 6 stands.

As for how much I spend - well this time a mere £8 on kids sandwich stuff but I quite often do a £50 shop on my bike easily...
My problem is that when I do use things like the railings to the trolley park I'm always worried whether the bike will be damaged by someone putting back a trolley, or that it gets in the way of pedestrians and they become annoyed at seeing bikes attached to everything.

These are two photos from my Waitrose:

It shows that cyclists do go shopping by bike.

My Mom never had a driving licence. She was a cyclist through and through.

I used to go with her to the Co-op in Solihull after being picked up from Junior school.

It was quite a large ammount of groceries and a young lady assistant would load them into an empty packing carton. Then the lady on the cash register would say "We will deliver them for you, Mrs Lee".

Now that's a chat up line I've never heard before.

I just thought.

T**** have a team of 'Customer Satisfaction' people who trawl the internet for sites ( chatboards ) where their name appears.

I don't want to get the young lady into any trouble. Chopped out that bit.

Also, did you know, the cash till staff at Tesco are disciplined if they chat too much to the customers. Chatting reduces the number of 'Throughputs'. Throughputs? That's you and I.

I designed a Sainsbury's local and the local authority spent a year fighting the installation of bike anchor points on the front of the store. The Sainsbury's manager would ask cyclists to bring their bikes in to the store and prop them up against the veg counter....

Good - I'd like them to discover this thread (obviously not your bit), and find out that it sounds like cyclists in general don't find Tesco's cycle-friendly. I note they don't appear on the Cycle to Work Guarantee list (see thread I've started about the scheme).
