Well, I gave up waiting for the Cube. I had told my LBS that I'd buy a Cube Agree GTC Di2 off them as soon as they got them in stock, but I've been waiting since February, with no sign, and endless promises from the suppliers to the LBS that 'they are just a week away'. The Focus Cayo Evo 2.0 was sitting in the shop for an extra three hundred quid, but I held off for a long time, having drooled over the Cube.
Then I saw a recent head to head review of both of them in the latest Cycling Plus, and the Focus came out on top, slightly. What sold it for me was the fact that the Focus frame was designed around the DI2 group set, so it's a very elegant fit - you only have about a cm of cable showing, it comes out the frame and straight into the mechs, lovely. Other than that, both bikes were quite fairly matched, with the Focus described as 'a more exciting ride'.
So, here is my new pride and joy:
I've taken it out for a very quick first ride, just a 15 mile route near me, taking in a nice hill. I can't say how impressed I am with the bike. Ignoring the DI2 gears, which are everything they are cracked up to be, the bike itself is a dream. It kills the road buzz better than my CX bike! It's responsive, and I've never ridden anything that spins up to speed so easily. It may be in my head, but I actually think I ended up putting in more effort, as the bike accelerated with less effort than I'm used to, and so when it stopped accelerating I felt I was doing it a disservice!
And despite my initial misgivings when comparing it to the Cube, it's beautiful
