New bike!

Fancied trying a fixed for ages. Recently mentioned this to a work colleague, and it wasn't long before he came to me asking if I wanted to buy his - he had a new mountain bike on order and his wife sets his limit for bikes to 6, so he had to all one...

150 quid later, and I'm now the owner of a Felt Dispatch. don't know which years model, but it's this color scheme...

Might get some pictures of it in the flesh later, running a bath for the little un at the moment.

It's running 46/16, has a flip flop hub, but I decided to brave it and go straight to fixed for my first run. Was only 3.5 miles home, and it kicked my feet off the pedals three times while I was getting used to it.

I think I've worked out the solution is to make sure I actually brake, before "thinking about" braking. This may not make sense, but I was finding I was automatically slowing to free wheel before touching the brakes. Whenever I broke first, it was fine.

Looking forward to getting properly used to it, as long as it doesn't decide to kill me first!

Congratulations on your new bike. Has your wife set you a maximum bike limit at all? If so, how close are you to it??

It's a damn sight easier when clipped in! Second commute on it yesterday with new SPD pedals. Was a breeze - even had braking using the chain down by the time I got to work. Also surprisingly quick...
