I have been using my mountian bike for my commute to work, and done about a 1000 miles on it. this weekend I did notice the back tyre was a bit worn out

The front tyre is ok,

I will swap both tyres and going for slicks this time, as I only use the bike on the road.
Any recommendation on tyres, don't really want to spend any more than £30 for both.

Marathons (not quite slicks) are good road tyres which don't seem to puncture often. I get better than 3000 miles from the rear ones and nearer 5000 from the front. That's with 26 x 1.5 size.

(Unless they get cuts in them - sadly sometimes from vandals)

Schwalbe Land Cruiser or Speed Cruiser would be cheaper options than Marathons, but if you can afford the Marathons, they would be the choice of masses ! because they are almost puncture proof, very hardwearing and give very low rolling resistance.

I use Michelin City hybrid tyres, I think they were about £25 for the pair.
