I've never visited the Daily Mail website before. It's hilarious!! It's as much fun as the Onion.
Lucky you. I sometimes stop by to gauge the zeitgeist (pretentious as hell I know) if the weather's too bad to run or cycle as it increases my pulse and heart-rate and gives me a muscle-clenching workout without leaving my armchair.
Fnaar, we were in Santa Monica for a few days last year. Plenty of people walking and just as many cycling nowadays. It's even got (gasp) pedestrianised shopping streets. Although it's mostly pretty middle class...
Near the seafront, yes, loads, but my hotel was prob about 2 miles inland, and once away from the most picturesque bits, there weren't many walkers. I also had a cycle there (hired a bike and rode along to Venice Beach, and on towards Redondo; turned back coz of time pressure)
