I guess I'm lucky that I haven't got 'friends' who try to make me drink. Since 2008 (I think) I hardly ever drink, but will drink the odd pint with friends in my local, the fabulous
Bridge Inn in Topsham, and enjoy a glass or two of wine with friends when in residence in France. Total - probably about two bottles of wine, and ten pints, in a year. And I can enjoy each one. But I don't miss it in the least all the other nights of the year.
Drinking alone as a habit isn't a great place to be. I hope you can find a way to break the habit - cycling is good, if you can get back into that one, but it's been hard this year with all the rubbish weather. Maybe there's something else you can get into, or volunteering to help with a sociable group. Good luck - you're half way there by writing the problem down.
