Grapefruit's great, but it's the only thing my medication prevents me from having...
It's the Statins or Beta-blockers, can't remember which.
It's the statins. Your prescription probably carries a warning on the label, as mine does. There are, apparently, some indications of adverse reactions in some people.

Seriously though, ask your doctor about this. He/she will probably advise (as mine did) that you can continue to drink grapefruit juice in reasonable amounts. Remember the drugs companies have got to play it over-cautious.

In any case, I'm sure your doctor will be much more encouraged by your decision to go on the wagon, than any small risk you might be incurring by drinking grapefruit in its place...

I have discovered this stuff, competely alcohol free, serve well chilled, Mmmmm very nice.

Cranberry, lime juice and soda with crushed ice is yummy - basically a woo woo without the vodka
Grapefruit and lemonade is also good
The non alcoholic version of Cobra lager is actually quite palatable
I love Frijj - also made with skimmed milk, so quite healthy - and general milk/fruit combos are good featuring fresh fruit ie blueberries/strawberries
Smoothies are also yum! Buy a smoothie maker and get some wicked combos going.

The possibilities are endless.

A drink that is an anagram of "vomit" cannot be a good idea. Another vote for lime and soda. No good pretending it's any substitute for booze, but it's refreshing and stops the usual soft-drink problem of making you furious at having to spend thousands of pounds without even getting drunk.

I like it, I thought it was a black country drink originally but was wrong - found this on Wiki'

Vimto was created in 1908 in a small village called Timperley in Cheshire, England, by John Noel Nichols (1883 - 1966), a wholesaler of spices and medicines. He saw the market opening for soft drinks due to the temperance movement and the passage of the 1908 Licensing Act. It was originally sold under the name Vim Tonic, which Nichols shortened to Vimto in 1912. Vimto was originally registered as a health tonic or medicine, which was then re-registered in 1913 as a cordial

Vimto has acquired cult status amongst its consumers and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2008. Vimto is also manufactured under licence in Saudi Arabia and Yemen. It's also considered to be the most popular drink during the holy month of Ramadan.

coke and grapefruit juice.

Christ! Someone asked me for one of those once when I worked in a Working Men's Club. I almost refused to pour it, on grounds of sheer horror. And they wonder why booze is so popular!

I think a bullshot hits the spot bigtime...

Tomato juice
Beef consome (this is important!)
Lee and Perrins
Pepper
Salt
Celery salt
Horseradish sauce (also important)

Add all the rest of the salty stuff, drink it, have a half pint of tap water, and then repeat.

All the salt will not be good for you, but if you are on a serious mission, this drink hits the buttons.

Good luck, and a Very Happy New Year
wowser! I'm giving that a try! With the coriander, which we get for 59p a big bunch

Beef consome (sorry, I just can't do the French acute accent when typing) is a thin, brown, stock-like stuff that you can buy in tins at the supermarket... if you are lucky.

An essential ingredient.

Do not leave home without it....
you are absolutely the sort of chap we need on the FNRttC....

It sounds good, but surely it's still crying out for a shot of vodka and a dash of very dry sherry?

It amuses me that while alcohol is a depressant, the list of alternatives seems far more depressing.
