Hi all,

I'm a total novice and this is my first post so please bear with me.

I'm old ( 66 ) and recently retired and want to get into cycling. I would like to ride country lanes and some light woodland paths but I have arthritis in my hands and wrists so I need to be careful with handlebars and riding position. I considered a Dutch bike but felt it would be heavy and not do light offroad paths very well so I have been looking at hybrid bikes with a more upright riding position. The Giant roam 2 etc are on my radar. However, when I tried one today which the store set up for me, I still felt a fair bit of pressure on my hands and wrists and I was a bit disappointed because I otherwise really enjoyed riding the bike.

I wonder if it would be reasonable to fit North Road Bars on this or even cheaper bikes ( eg Carrera Crossfire etc ) to allow for a less stressful experience with my hands? I guess this is possible but will have downsides. Nonetheless, my reasoning is that I am keen to go cycling even if my hand issue restricts the experience a little.

I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this.

What do you guys say?
