Hol den Vorschlaghammer!
Location
Derby.
If served that way I'd expect my chef to reduce the jus or serve it with a foam.

Obvs.
A foam of polymerised aromatic molecules, leavened with a blend of gases?

It's because we've got things called 'taste' and 'discernment'. Unheard of in the North...

Serving food on pieces of slate?

You sure about that?

The slates are of Northern roofs. They even steal the roof from over are heads...... And then become all pretentious about it. I suspect regurgitater thinks a sushi bar is a fish and chip shop.

There's the delineation between (not to put too fine a point on it) "English chippies" and "Chinese chippies". Chinese chippies stay open way later
Pity they finish cooking at 10pm and are still serving the same fish and chips at 1am!

Been living up here for 12 years now, and have mostly accommodated these northern culinary delights.
Gravy on chips, mushy peas, pickled red cabbage wi' me 'otpot, teacakes without currants. Still can't get my head round all the chippies closing at 7pm

It's the local type chippies I'm talking about, cos you can still get pretend chips from Chinese takeaways or Bannies.
7pm? Must be Southerners running them. They have to get ready for the dinner. They have dinner at 7pm, according to @martint235.

A gentlemanly pootler, these days

Steak pudding... Yum...

Are there any Wiganers about to describe to our Southern readers the delights of a "babby's yed flottin' "?

I think Auntie Wainwrights chippy on Beaufort St in Nelson is open later than 7pm but it may have changed since I was last in there.

You start queuing at least 1 hour before you want it. I have never seen a chippy with a que outside every single time I passed.

Leytonstone
Gravy is for a roast dinner, sausage and mash and that's it !!!!

no its for going over decent chunky chips , that have been arranged around the edge of a massive yorkshire pudding filled with sausages and mushy peas, and not runny mushy peas either nice thick gloopy ones the onion gravy can mix with.

mmmm hungry now .
