North / South divide question...

I reckon anything further south than Nottingham is the cut off point for chips and gravy. Remember going into a chippy in London and getting a look of disgust when asking for gravy. Worst part is they didn’t do anything, be it gravy, peas, curry or beans. It’s dying out these days but mushy peas have to be proper steeped peas and not that crap from a can. Supermarkets stopped selling them some years ago.

Chippies cease to exist somewhere around the South Wirral / Cheshire area.

Anything south of that neck of the woods is a poor imitation and should be prosecuted under the trades description act.....apart from a couple of nice ones in north Wales.....but that's only coz scousers on their toes from the bizzies moved there.

A few decent chippies in Prestatyn. The one near our caravan does the 'lot' to suit all tastes, including cheesy chips
The chippy there, a single portion of chips is enough for 4 - they pile the chips on.

Cliche I know, but it was pie & mash growing up for me (2 pie, 1 mash & liquor). None of that jellied Eels business though. Just grim..

I can eat just about anything but these are truly disgusting; maybe the eels didn't sit too well on the 10 plus pints beforehand when I tried them. Just the thought of the liquor on the pie and mash in Bethnal Green some 45 years ago still makes me shudder.

In Devon it is fairly normal and appears in roughly 50% of the shops I have visited. Curry sauce is more common, but unfortunately it contains sultanas which is wrong.

Nope. My mum's curries always had sultanas in them. It's a 70s thing. I miss them.

Ooh I love steak pudding. Proper, steamed steak pudding. They just don't do them in chippies down here

We go to one in prestatyn by my mates caravan, not far from rail station, they do fruit curry, my mates kids are addicted to it on their chips!
