For years I have cycled alone miles on the road and enjoyed it.
Recently had a new partner who has shown an interest in bikes.
Every weekend we or I have spare she wants to go out with me.
While this no problem, I end up looking over my shoulder every five minutes, fixing her bike etc.

As she is still quite new to cycling she finds it difficult on long distances.
I havent been able to do any long distances on a bike for a while as she always wants to go out with me help any advice would be good advice at this point
Ouch...tricky one. Whatever you do...be happy that your missus wants ti share the time and is prepared to put in some proper effort to do so.

You are onto a winner there don't blow it by being selfish. Surely you have more than one opportunity a week to ride, just share the time.you are very lucky

This is exactly right, you are very lucky

My wife has never ridden a bike until last year and she does like to come out with me at the weekends. It's wonderful just to be together. Yes it's slow and frustrating, she is working really hard to get better, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Both myself and my partner love to cycle together and see it as "our" time away from the teenage daughter, pup, work, house etc we cruise along chatting and taking in the scenery. However, There are times when one or the other isn't up for a cycle and the other goes regardless no problems. Communication is the key speak to her and tell her how much you enjoy the rides with her but explain that you'd like to go for a big ride more often. Maybe you could arrange a route that has a lovely stopping point let her stop there read, explore, drink coffee etc and you carry on and pick her up on the return and ride back together.
