Laugh at me if you like but I am sitting here fuming at the DWP. I have just received my pension notification for 2015/2016. Nowhere do they refer to it as a "Pension", it is referred to as a "Benefit". Benefits are what people on the dole and single mothers and the sick get. My pension IS NOT a benefit, I made contributions for 40 odd years, it is a repayment of money they have taken off me for so many years, partly to pay the then pensioners.

Just because some people are in receipt of benefits, it doesn't make them scroungers.

I think it says something that benefits are now seen in such poor regard that the beneficiaries are immediately seen as scroungers. The system is not there to support these scrounging foreigners the DM et all will tell us, but to offer support to those in most need. It is not perfect but works pretty well and is something this country should be proud of.

It is a benefit. They blew your contributions on various wars, IT projects and British Leyland.

So now they have to rob some poor saps who are currently working to pay you £148 a week.

Here for rides.
It is a benefit. A benefit which is a part of the welfare state. That you had to make contributions to it doesn't change that.

PS its not a benefit it's a pension just like a private pension. No difference you saved money into the state pension so it is pension. Note the ones with there greedy grabbing NHS pension will call theirs a pension not a benefit. Hypocrisy to do so.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
DWP in theyre letters to people call it the state pension.. That sounds about right in my opinion. I can understand why the OP didnt like it being referred to as a benefit. And like someone else said, you wouldn't refer to a private pension as a benefit, although they are different in some ways.
