I've just been watching this on the news. It showed a brave cyclist battling his way up there, not sure how successful the attempt actually was.

Just watched this before even looking at the thread... nasty little hill..lol

For you consideration, Dunedin, New Zealand has Baldwin Street

Apparently the the road surface is concrete because the usual bitumen would flow down the hill on a hot day.

As someone who has ridden that climb many, many times, I think that's a recording error!

I was surprised... but it is on every strava section for the gorge.. I think it's the bit where the road narrows on the left hand bend. Probably only a few metres

According to this, the maximum gradient is 16%: http://cyclinguphill.com/cheddar-gorge/

Which feels much more like my experience of it - there's no part of the climb that requires you to get out of the saddle...

I cycled down from brizzle via Strawberry line...so didn't have energy to get out of saddle..lol. I agree it didn't appear that steep...I think the strava goes along in 10m segments so there will be steep little bits but overall I agree with you. Great climb though when doing the full length.

My current avatar pic is from Cheddar Gorge when I went up there last September. I'm pretty certain I would have noticed if there were any 45% bits!

Also, it's not a residential street. There are plenty of roads around the world that are just as steep as Baldwin Street but they don't have people living on them.
