Now that the religious thread has slowed down can we talk about immigration

Since I've been mixing with EU immigrants (skilled, unskilled and middle management) for a number of years now, I'd say the majority had and do have a lot to offer.

In fact, in certain industries, without such immigrant labour, the 'pleasant' boat would have sank a long time ago.

I absolutely agree. I am certainly not arguing against immigration.

As a nurse, I have frequently had to depend on nursing colleagues from the Philippines, South Africa, Portugal and Spain and a very high percentage of the doctors I have and still do work with are of African or Asian descent.
Way back in the days of Idi Amin, my parents housed a Ugandan refugee, and he lived with us for over a year. Eventually his family moved to the UK and integrated very well here. Lovely People and I am glad that we could help them.

So my colours on the mast. I am not a racist, I hate racism......but I do think that we need greater controls over immigration.

The difference being that a ship is a finite thing. Fixed number of cabins etc. We have the capacity to build more so the analogy doesn't really work.

Even our Island has a finite capacity albeit much greater than a ships.
We may have the capacity to build greater infrastructure. ....but that infrastructure is not in place at present and building infrastructure costs considerable sums of money.

It was still a pretty crap analogy.

I am sure it isn't a great analogy - (I am but a simple soul from Narfuk after all!) but hopefully highlights what some of the concerns are.
To back up those concerns about lack of infrastructure there is a report in today's Independent that suggests that if the current cold weather does not improve, British gas supplies may have to be rationed.

Its not about fault...not about racism....it's.about uncontrolled population growth. I have no axe to grind with immigrants.
If I were in their shoes I would probably come here too!

Alternatively, if they are sufficiently valid to stand for themselves, you could always express these concerns in simple terms without muddying it with all the pleasant ship rubbish.
As for the gas rationing, we need more wind-farms?

My analogies may not be clever Adrian. I don't claim to be clever. My analogy was a simple illustration. Sorry if it offends your obviously superior intelect. If you search through any of my postings on this forum, I hope that I have never been rude or unpleasant towards other forum members. ....sadly you could not claim the same.

When I wrote " come here too" I meant to Great Britain rather than specifically to Norfolk. Having said that, West Norfolk and the Fens does have a very high migrant population from Eastern Europe many of who work on the farms and associated processing plants.

Adrian,I think I have stated quite clearly what I want to say. (Apart from using the word migrant instead of immigrant.)
