O2 putting up my tariff, is that a breach of contract?

I remember reading something about an increase in tariff would constitute a breach of contract but that was a while ago when I saw that.
I think I'll check the T&C tomorrow. I only took the contract in August.

BREACH of contract? Check your T&Cs, but you can probably be sure that O2 will have covered it, and can do as they please.

I got an email saying it is going up too. Just an inflationary rise. I suppose we can't expect it to stay the same forever. Sometimes think about getting rid of my mobile as I barely use it.

A lot of people seem to have found that simply threatening to leave results in being offered a cheaper tariff. If you're prepared to move it's probably worth giving it a try.

Must admit to knowing little about such contracts, but I do wonder what the benefit is for light users? Mrs A has a contract and every time it comes up for renewal she say she'll not bother and get a PAYG (like wot I got) but it's never happened. I guess it's easier just to renew!

Just because something may be referred to in the T&Cs doesn't mean it's OK. The Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 may well come in to play.

Ditto above comment. Having said that the get out clause maybe that either party can cancel the contract at any time and in the case of all these great big companies, in effect, just offer you a new one (diff tariff etc). You of course can agree or walk. Hardly fair because if you tried that to them!!!

Best advice, haggle with them and be prepared to walk away.

Gave up on the big phone companies years ago, hate being tied into a contract which seems to increase with cost which offered me no real value... On giffgaff now.
It's run by the users and support requests are actioned faster than any of the main players. I find its also pretty reliable as it piggy backs on O2 and gives you the flexibility to change what you need from one month to the next.. Costs me £7.50 a month at the moment
I purchased a Google Nexus phone off contract which is a great phone and decent value for money..
Best move I ever did for my mobile and data needs.

That might be worth looking into. I only really keep my phone for emergencies and the odd text here.

Giff Gaff is really good and its options are so configurable, you can have a wide range of options such as text messaging but without SMS (so you can't send images) which saves you even more money.
As I don't send picture messages this is an option I have. You can even do per phone call charges and per text charges if you want, so you can put money on your phone and use it till it runs out.
It also listens to the users extensively and work towards providing the service they want.
The pay as you go prices compare very well to the main players.

Big phone companies need to start listening to the customer and realizing who they depend upon imho

Giffgaff are fine right up until the point you have a technical issue. Then forget it, the only help you get is a forum when you get told to try the same thing over and over again and if it doesn't work your not doing it right. I was on giffgaff for 2 weeks then went to a sim only month to month contract with 3 that is actually cheaper then giffgaff for my needs.
