I don't think obese people should be unduly singled out for criticism but at the same time it shouldn't be looked at as being normal. Unless in 10 years all the population is the same.

Its gone beyond singling out individuals, take a look around. Being overweight is normal.

This is quite a serious problem in the long term mental health field.

There is definitely a link to mental health also. But we cannot speak out against it, which is society gone mad.

Just watching 'Big Chicken' documentary on Netflix. Frightening. The US and now the UK have what is called a food desert - i.e. no-where where you can pop in a store and buy fresh fruit/veg and meat - only fast food in the area.

Im confused by what they mean there, even my local garage sells fresh fruit and veg, and sure it helps to live in an area with local shops but we've got co-ops and a bunch of mini market shops all within 1mile walking distance for the majority, though I know some complain about parking still.

whereas 50 years ago when I was living in a really rural area of Suffolk, our nearest food shop was at least 3-6 miles away in the nearest town, we used to have a greengrocers van turn up a maybe a few times a week, and the local farmer sold you milk.


but it feels like now there are alot more general shops selling fresh food/ingredients than there were, its kind of why the old fashioned greengrocers or butchers or fishmongers have kind of died out.

One the major problems in the mental health field is that some of the anti psychotic drugs stimulate the appetite. Plus when someone is acutely mentally unwell they are often rather active but once they are on medication they become rather sedate.

The most galling thing about that was that she had no intention of reducing her consumption, it was just a new maximum that her body could take. In my view, she'd been cured of nothing.

They don't want fatties to be able to get / stay thinner without the ongoing, paid for, use of their medicines.

Add in the other common ones: a cholesterol reducer; a happy pill; a blood pressure reducer; a thyroid function increaser; a type 2 diabetes medication and an acid reflux treatment and you have someone worth a lot of money to the pharma industry.

The NHS spends nearly £1bn per month on prescriptions dispensed in the community in England.

Very common in certain parts of America, and they said it was happening here in some poor areas. The issue is the availability of ultra processed food, and the US is somewhat further down the rabbit hole.
