I tried many helmets on when I bought mine and the most expensive were incredibly uncomfortable to me. I settled on a £30 MET which is fine. I've also got a £15 Raleigh helmet which came from Amazon which is more comfortable than many more expensive. It really depends on what's most comfortable for you.

+1 I tried Specialized and Giro helemets that cost round £100 and felt like medieval torture devices on me. I wear a Bell Avanti from Halfords £25.

find one you like, that fits and feels good however much or little it costs and you're away.

To the OP:-

If you want to wear a lid, fine, just don't be under any illusions that it will save your life. Cycle lids are not designed to do anything other than offer some limited protection against fairly minor bumps & scrapes. The key thing is FIT, as others have said - that & wearing it correctly on your bonce. It is not to be worn like a summer bonnet, perched on the back of the head. It is designed to be worn on the top of the head. If you go under the wheels of a bus, wearing a lid will not save your life. Really.

If you want to cycle as safely as possible and enjoy cycling on road, I suggest you develop the practical skills to cycle safely & assertively (not aggressively, just assertively with confidence) I recommend getting some cycle training done to the national cycle training standards and invest in a copy of Cyclecraft (book based to take account of the national cycle training standards: Bikeability)

You're in Luton? It would seem Luton Council offer such training.

Hope the above helps.
