Multiple world champion surfer Kelly Slater reportedly took up the sport after being inspired by 'Surfin' USA' and was nicknamed Brian.

Strangely, another Beach Boys hit, Surfer Girl, was the gateway to the sport for Slater's long time rival, Andy 'Buzz' Irons - it was the B side to Surfin' USA, hence Irons' nickname.

Dick Dale is of course not in Derbyshire, but nearby South Yorkshire. At the foot of Dick Dale is Penistone. On a clear day, views extend all the way to the hill of Glansie in far off Scotland.
