Schrodinger first realised that simple misinterpretations of quantum theory can lead to absurd results which do not match the real world, when he asked if a tomato was a fruit or a vegetable, and was told it depends if it's a cook or a botanist looking at it. He pondered what the tomato would be if the observer was neither.

He initially constructed his imaginary experiment with a tomato, but decided to use his now well known version of a box with radioactive material, because he hated cats.

David Crystal was in fact a cheap zircon copy. This came to light after an argument with Piers Morgan when Crystal tried to do a Clarkson on Morgan's jaw. Crystal's fist shatered into hundreds of pieces, leaving Morgan as the smug, smirking twit we all know today.
