Odd Places to Cycle

I ended up at Hampden today, with my dad's mate; he's partially disabled so we drove straight to the ground. whilst sitting in the Car Park a bloke on a bike went back and forward a dozen times. I thought that this was a weird place to cycle; in a car park, outside a football ground with 40,000 fans wondering about/ queueing. It probably ain't that bizarre after all ;-) but it got me wondering; where is the most bizarre place you have seen a cyclist?

The Australian floods..i saw a piece on the news where two people were cycling up a flooded street , the water came up to their knees. I remember thinking...a few weeks, those bikes are going to be cream crackered.
BBs, freewheel (they looked BSO'ish) and rear axle completely immersed in water.

Dimitrakis the engineer in Cyprus where i visit each year has an ancient Rudge he rides around the packhouse/factory. It always funny to see him come riding into the buildings. One pace...slowwwwww. He's so laid back, he's almost falling over.

On a day when we're both in at the Velo Vision office, if whoever gets in first leaves the door wide open, whoever gets in second can ride right into the office....

Not one I've seen for real, but I have a Spike Milligan book of photos of transport with funny captions (Transports of Delight, well worth a look if you find a copy second hand, very funny), and there's a pic of two ship's officers riding Moultons on the deck of a massive oil tanker.

Slightly OT but I find dissused stations on railpaths are strange places to cycle through. The best one was Woodhead station on the Trans-Pennine trail where it really did feel like you should be on a rail-bike. I think they've fenced that bit of station off now though.

Do it regularly myself (not on a tanker though). Never actually thought of it as an odd place to cycle though.
bikes aren't that an unusual transport on big tankers - even mopeds and small tractors are used.

Bah, the Woodhead Route, they should NEVER have closed it!!

As for me?? I once ended up being caught up in a local 10K running race along the local cycle track. I got off it at the first possible opportunity.

I had that Spike book years ago, but lost it... I would LOVE the picture or the "family bike" that aids contraception, as whenever the parents feel like it, they all go out for a ride... have you got a scanner, Arch?? Been looking for that pic for years now

Not at home, but I can scan it at work next week!

That is, assuming I can find the book! I've got the Further Transports of Delight in front of me now, and that has a few more funny bike photos...

Found it!

It's this one?

The second book has more bike ones, including a hugely long multiple tandem required after fertility treatment went wrong, and the multiple seat trike used by the police to chase said family when they speeded...

I'll try and scan a load of pics and post them up....

I'm confused how it keeps the population down; they look like they are enjoying so much they wouldn't have mined trying for another; the could have always got one more on the bars

I look forward to seeing your other pics :becool:
