I agree squirrels are the ultimate chicken players. I had one last week as well, I kept going and it ended up running sideways as I approached, I think I missed by 4 -5 inches. In defense it was a grey one. I may have "got off" for a red one! Had one under the BB last year...

I find it's pigeons in the early morning all feeding in the road and i've had a few fly into my spokes.Commiserations mate.

Yeah, pigeons here, too. I yell at them. It works.

There's nasty skidding to be had off a pigeon.

This morning - pottering along up Egerton Road when a cat comes running across in front of me.

Slammed the brakes on, but must have had the bike at an angle, because the front got away from me and down I went.

Rear rack is scraped up (but seems ok) and the plastic bits of my STis are a mess - my Carradice stood up to things pretty well, and is just a bit dirty (thanks Priscilla, you made that one well!) I have a bruised elbow and a bit of road rash on my knee. The cat buggered off before I could give it a kick in the arse.

FFS, what a Monday.

Do you have a Barley? Priscilla also did a good job on my Barley - when I was offed by ice earlier this year my Barley escaped any damage (just dirt looked like road salt).

My right STI shifter was well f*c'd though. Totally snapped in half at the hood and the name plate went AWOL. Still worked though and a bit of super glue, some electrical tape and a new name plate from SJS cycles and it looked as good as new. Well, apart from the big scratches on the shifter itself.....

Pheasants give me the willies. ALways fly out from the verge as you're speeding along and make you jump a mile.

I'm also nervous of rabbits since I was doing a very steep descent in the Peak District (strines moor). I thought I'd seen a brown paper bag blow under the bike but wasn't til I got to the bottom of the hill and my mate told me it was a baby rabbit that missed my front wheel by centimetres!! I would have been toast at that speed!

They have 9 lives for a reason, perhaps barking would have helped. Glad to hear that you weren't too badly hurt.

Mine's a Lowsaddle Longflap - fantastic bag, and as I've just discovered, pretty hard wearing I do wish it had the organiser pocket that the Super C's do, but might and up making one of those. Other than that, great day ride & commuting luggage.
