Been asked today by folk heading to Glasgow for recommendations and thought I'd copy the e-mail I sent them. I'll be in Liverpool, Manchester and nottingham in the coming months so it will be good to know the places there to get some decent grub

So I'll start.

Glasgow

Indian - The Dhabba, Balbirs or Mother India (forget these places if you like a korma or chicken tikka masala though)

Chinese - Ho Wong, Amber Regent or Asia Style

Italian - All average apart from Sartis and if you're splashing out La Parmigiana

Seafood - Crabshakk, City Merchant, Rogano, Gamba, Gandolfi Fish

Scottish - City Merchant, The Sisters, Two Fat ladies, Cafe Gandolfi, Urban Brasserie

Spanish - Cafe Andaluz

That should keep you busy if coming to Glasgow

palinurus

Velo, boulot, dodo
Location
Watford
In Watford I like..

Hanako (Japanese). Good sushi/ sashimi.

The place in the market that does chickpea and potato pancakes (I don't know what it's called- find Gibson's the butcher and it's opposite)

And I sometimes have lunch at the the chinese place above the market (It's called Yummy, really). It's cheap, the menu never changes- nothing changes except the staff get older. They top up your teapot if you run out. Old people like it, it's charming.

Don't go many other places locally. Sometimes pop into Diwana's bhel-poori house if I'm going through Euston on the way back home. That's London though, I'm mentioning it anyway.

Ride It Like You Stole It!
Location
South Manchester
If you want the best Malaysian food ever, located in South Manchester, the Bunga Raya in Hazel Grove - about 7 miles South of the Manchester Centre on the A6 near American Golf Discount..... The owner is brill, the food outstanding, and it's good value. It's a small intimate place, but very very good.

My village is the only one in the world which has a choice of three-star Michelin restaurants. I prefer the local chip shop, though.

Er, Lutterworth...pretty much nowt. The chinese 'The paper tiger' is OK. We had a great indian called exotic spice, run by guys from Brum, but it closed in the recession alongside pretty much every other small business here.

In the nearby village of Gilmorton there is, however, a fantastic gastropub called 'The Grey Goose', which is highly recommended.

Very nice! Mind you, I love Indian food, so I've not tried any of the other restaurants in Fareham ... apart from the other Indian ones.

Spitting distance from my home... I love the place!

Thanks for reminding me, a mate had a big scoff up there for his birthday last year - excellent. I must go back very soon.

In Leicester try Maiyango, apparently it made the Times list of the top 10 restaurants in Britain in 2008.
