"Old" TV stuff

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
I'm not sure or convinced about all the old stuff on TV. I quite like watching things like the two Ronnies, but for me most of that stuff, like the sweeney, the professionals etc is very dated now, and I just feel embarrassed looking at the trousers and shoes. And to be honest the filming wasn't that good, and the acting wasn't great either.

I know some people still love the old stuff, and the bad filming and acting is all part and parcel of the programmes, but for me I'll leave those programmes where they belong which is well and truly in the past. Happy watching ladies and gentlemen.
I think we have been banned from considering anything from the 70s as funny.

and you have also gained another point on me in the football thing
BBC4 are repeating Ripping Yarns at the moment. Very silly

As a youngster in the 70s, I think I watched far too much TV.

My favourite series were Alias Smith & Jones, The Likely Lads and Dad's Army, and still watch repeats when possible.

I also liked Shoestring and Bergerac.

Never liked The Sweeney as I can't abide Dennis Waterman - useless stiff 'actor'.

It got me thinking about other "old stuff" - Tarzan movies, Abbot and Costello, Laurel and Hardy - which are rarely, if ever, on TV nowadays but which were standard fare in the late 70s/early 80s. And I think the TV world is a sadder place as a result.

Yours, a sad old bugger.

Just about everything is available at the National Media Museum in Bradford, browse through all the archives, choose your show, then sit in a little booth to view, excellent. I watched "Curry & Chips" on my last visit. When my daughter was v.young she became hooked on the Clangers there, I know every bleedin episode.
The macho buddy cop stuff is so obviously repressed homosexuality that it's wearing cowboy chaps with nothing underneath, a wahoosive Stetson, and a long-barrelled shooter hanging from the waist.

That was way out of order, still very funny though.
