I managed a "U" at O level French, now that takes hard work
Je me souviens (is that right?), the phrases I still use to this day when I am particularly vexed...I seem to remember something about their dog and a lawn mower. I think in my interpretation it wasn't pretty.
You hear "zut alors" a lot in my town.Je me souviens (is that right?), the phrases I still use to this day when I am particularly vexed...
...zut alors, et, mille fois zut
I assume that when Bertillon jnr used the phrase he wasn't saying something coarse like 'merde' or 'le bollox'You hear "zut alors" a lot in my town.
Usually when the Op Stack is on and the French shops here can't get their daily deliveries in.
Their language can be as ripe as some of their cheeses on occasions but I just put that down to the fact you can never please a Frenchman.I assume that when Bertillon jnr used the phrase he wasn't saying something coarse like 'merde' or 'le bollox'![]()
Or indeed, "est-ce qu'il un route plus rapide á Dover, s'il vous plait?"You hear "zut alors" a lot in my town.

I've never tried, to be honest, but your experience is probably greater than mine in that respect...you can never please a Frenchman.
I remain thankful that I was taught French from primary school age on, which I think was thanks to teachers Mr Wanoa and Mr Hammett and headteacher Mr Clamp. It wasn't really fair on the kids from the other primary schools who went to the same secondary, as you needed a good "first year" (which was after six years for my village) test result to have the option to study German too.I managed a "U" at O level French, now that takes hard work![]()
