In some cases I think some motorist don't appreciate quite how fast a road bike can travel, for example one road near me has a 30 mph limit, it's quite easy to ride down it at 22 to 25 mph.
Yes.
There's a downhill before an uphill.
I'm not the fastest of riders but I hit the uphill section at around 18 mph.

I was on the MTB, heading to the towpaths today.
I have to cycle for about a mile on a main road, which is quite fast and has those road narrowing sections, to stop speeding motorists.
As I was approaching one, I checked behind me. There was a car there (which I had heard before I checked), so a few seconds later I checked again, just so he'd get the idea that I was there and was going through.

So what does he do? On my third check he has pulled out and is in the position to pass me!
I held my position and shouted (more for my benefit!) "Stay where you are you f*cking a-hole" (or similar!)
Right after the narrowing is a RH filter which I was taking, so I indicated and got into it.
He passed me just as I got into the filter lane and I noticed his window was down.
The 'f*cking a-hole' didn't look too happy
Good for you:okay:

I disagree. It is there to protect right-turning traffic from overtakers.
But apparently not to protect cyclists, as the number of vehicles that try to pass me at this point is ridiculous!
I even had a refuse lorry try, as I was coming the opposite way...he squeezed past and almost had me off! Needless to say I reported him.
For cyclists, it's a dangerous bit of road!
