I get the missus to push start it.
Uphill too, ya know just for fun.![]()
But the 1.6 looked nicer, was nearly as quick, and was fizzy fun.
I wasn't sure where to put this, so apologies if it's not in the correct place!
I was phoning around for insurance quotes for my kit car. It's currently on a limited mileage (2500 miles) and one of the brokers I spoke to wanted to know what other vehicles I have access to. I explained I'm a named driver on my Wife's car and also my Daughter's (although she lives at a different address). The broker was quite abrupt and said 'is that your main car', to which I replied "It is our main car, my Wife is the main driver and I do more miles per year on my pedal bikes than I do in the kit car. She didn't seem to accept this, and I reinforced it with "I think the kit car did 1020 miles between MOT's in the last year. Years ago I had a similar issue (with a different kit) and a broker wanted the details of my other vehicle, so I gave the frame number of my bike. The broker said " we can't find that vehicle", so I explained what it was, and that I used it for daily commuting - They accepted it. Maybe times have changed? Do folk who walk, or use their pedal bikes or public transport all have issues with kit or classic car insurance on low- mileage? I'm more than happy to have my MOT mileages inspected if that helps.
Rant over.
Do you kick start it?
I suspect the insurers are just trying to check you're not "fronting" i.e. just being a named driver on someone else's policy when it's actually your main vehicle, which is fraud.
As the vast majority people with a kit car will have a daily driver as well, not having one will be ringing alarm bells.
I moved house so I wouldnt needmto drive everywhere as I got older, and now no longer have a daily use car.
My campervan is on a limited milege policy with no commuting, and my C70 is on a classic car policy. I don't have a "main" car as I don't need one.
- im easy walking distance from the shops, docts, cafe, and garden centre so don't need a car at all. Thus far insurers, Carol Nash and Ailing Fux, have been fine with that.
I tried calling Carole Nash on the phone, but it seems they only do online quotes, so i didn't go any further.
Why ever not?
Because it's specialist, low-mileage kit car insurance, I'd prefer to discuss with a human.
As I'm retired (which I told them), I don't have the need to drive much, but I sometimes drive my Wife's car, which she uses it for work, and I am definitely not the main driver. I do more miles on my pedal bike than I ever do it the car (and certainly more hours). It grates that they think everyone uses a car..... What next, they join forces with BBC and use detector vans, because everyone MUST use a car and a TV?
