As I'm retired (which I told them), I don't have the need to drive much, but I sometimes drive my Wife's car, which she uses it for work, and I am definitely not the main driver. I do more miles on my pedal bike than I ever do it the car (and certainly more hours). It grates that they think everyone uses a car..... What next, they join forces with BBC and use detector vans, because everyone MUST use a car and a TV?

Well I suspect that the vast majority of people getting car insurance quotes do in fact use a car.

They don't know you're not the main driver of your wife's car. Your not driving another car much is unusual, so they're just checking. A lot of people bend the truth (lie) to get a cheaper quote.

Because it's specialist, low-mileage kit car insurance, I'd prefer to discuss with a human.

Just tried the CN on line quoter, it wouldn't find my car by registration number. I entered make as requested, that was OK (surprise), but it only gave an option of convertible, and mine is a fixed roof saloon. The contact us phone number is a premium one (not for my phone) and there is a warning from MS Edge that the site isn't registered. Is it a scam site? doesn't appear to be, and the other phone number for them on the site just refers to the website. Can't proceed, so would be bothered that the rest of the service could be suspect.
ETA, just tried the CN motorbike insurance https. site (should be legit with https?) and the phone number goes to a software company. All very odd

Which reminds me of a conversation I had with my dad years ago when I bought my first motorbike:

Dad: “does it have a kick start?”
Me: “no, it has a starter motor”
Dad: “what if the battery goes flat?”
Me: “does your car have a crank handle?”

To the original post - this is a classic “computer says no” situation. There is a form to fill in prepared by someone with blinkers on who assumes that there MUST be a “main car” and offers no option otherwise. I assume that a “main car” has to be nominated to assign a level of risk to that car. “It’s only an occasional plaything” isn’t an option.

The issue here is the fact it is a kit car.
These tend to require specialist insurance.
And there will be very few kit car owners who use it as their only vehicle.
Most kit car owners will be petrol heads with a fleet of old cars.

I had similar with the imported Mustang I had a number of years ago. Insurance companies found it incredulous that it was my only car.

Many years ago a member of my cycling club, who was a senior staff member at his place of work, was summoned into his superior's office. He was asked if he had family issues, or a gambling addiction or some other problem - his salary was such that he could afford to drive into work but he always used his bike! He explained that it was quicker and better to use the bike, but suspects he wasn't believed.

The comment that got me yesterday was on a Farceboke video of a bloke who was stopped again on 58 or 61points. Amongst other thing he's been stopped for driving with no insurance. As an aside he thinks he is being victimised 🙄 The comment that got my back up though said something like "he'll continue to drive uninsured as people need their cars to get to work" 🙄 🙄

Disqual drivers should be sent to chokey due to the disproportionate danger they present tomthe law abiding public. After all, you don't get to be disqual for services to charity.

Agreed. An 8 week sentence, suspended for a year is just extracting the Michael.

You simply cannot get that many points on your licence without a LOT of lawbreaking.

almost as good as Lynda La Plantes claim a driving ban would stop her writing as she wouldnt be able to take her dog for a walk and would get lonely...of course it was the bastion of road safety Mr Loophole who was presenting her case and declared driving was a “vital part of who she is”.

the magistrates disagreed, handed her a six-month ban as her points total rose to 24.

literally some are going to declare driving is a human right soon arent they.

I think that the six month sentence would likely be suspended, but just the real threat of it concentrates people's minds. There's no hardships defence in Spain, if you've hit the points limit you get a ban, no ifs or buts. It has no effect on the criminals, they don't care, but it does deter the ones that would otherwise extract the urine.
