I think that the six month sentence would likely be suspended, but just the real threat of it concentrates people's minds. There's no hardships defence in Spain, if you've hit the points limit you get a ban, no ifs or buts. It has no effect on the criminals, they don't care, but it does deter the ones that would otherwise extract the urine.

Why is the UK so soft?

Thats a good question. Beats me. After all, a suspended sentence is a kind of last chance with a threat rolled in. The moment folk make threats but dont follow through they look like chumps, and so it is with the courts.

Its a shame the justice system isnt as solicitous of victims rights and needs as it is of offenders.

Kill someone on the road and go to prison, and in the chokey you'd be entitled to as much free psychological treatment or counselling as you need for as long as required. The close relatives of the victims are only entitled to 6 hours. And so on.

almost as good as Lynda La Plantes claim a driving ban would stop her writing as she wouldnt be able to take her dog for a walk and would get lonely...of course it was the bastion of road safety Mr Loophole who was presenting her case and declared driving was a “vital part of who she is”.

literally some are going to declare driving is a human right soon arent they.

Because walking the dog from her door is impossible. Plus I bet she could easily afford taxis to take her to place she walks dog, or god forbid take the bus.

Of course, the Daily Mail report that he is known as "Mr Loophole", no less. That the Mail are the only ones that call him Mr Loophole, and that he has not provided any public evidence that he has an above average success defence rate with said loopholes seems to have passed them by.

Certainly some of the nonsense trotted out by PotPlante was abhorrent. The business with claming she would have to sack four of her employees was nothing short of a threat, and im glad it was ignored.

In theory, that is only supposed to be if it causes excessive hardship to others.

You are also in theory, only supposed to be able to use that spcific hardhip once.

In practice, both of those seem to be ignored

The offender should be the one concerned about the hardship to others that is a consequnece of their behaiour, not other potential future victims.
