Why do the brighter Oxy's just seem to keep in the background?

Hello decadence
You suggested they were mutually exclusive. You're wrong.
Smart casual you say........

I think "smart casual" is American in origin. I did note that there is clear gap between casual and smart casual in the US. For the latter, no ties, shirts and slacks are freshly pressed, shoes are usually shiny dressed shoes. The smart part did stand out. In the Europe, you sometimes cannot tell the difference at events.

One of my most hated, most loathed oxymorons has just been heard on the wireless.

'Premium Economy' airline tickets. Premium is surely the opposite to economy? You cant be tall short, fat thin, or handsome ugly,

And the other one that leaves me spitting feathers is 'smart casual'. Smart and casual are two mutually exclusive concepts, like alive and dead. Its a binary choice, can't be both at once.

I do appreciate that I have too much time on my hands if I'm worrying about such matters, but hey ho.

So what oxymorons grind your gears, and why?
congratulations on getting the word "binary" into one of your posts.
