Have a go and see what you do mate . I'm finding oils great fun !So, this painting and drawing malarkey, is it an inherent talent or can it be learned?
Edit: @Marmion need not reply.
I wouldn't know where to start.Have a go and see what you do mate . I'm finding oils great fun !
Yes, it most certainly can be learned! So, this painting and drawing malarkey, is it an inherent talent or can it be learned?
Betty Edwards - "Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain". Books here, website here. I was pretty talented with pen and ink as a child but reading Ms Edwards' book and doing the various exercises made a world of difference and I ventured into acrylics (loved), oils (terrifying) and watercolours (meh). I still have my portfolio but haven't done any kind of visual art in 35 years. Ought to remedy that sometime.years ago, remember a woman doing a really interesting experiment...she reckoned people were divided into people who stayed at "10 year old drawers" and people who progressed ..the theory was that the people who stayed as 10 year old drawers, didn't look at what they drew, they pretty much be like "oh I need to draw a chair, I know what a chair looks like" and look at the page they were drawing at, and hardly ever at the chair.....
So she got people copying pictures, but the picture was turned upside down, so you really had to look at the picture, she'd also get people to draw their hand, but instruct them not to look at the paper....
the results....people improved instantly....
that aside, pictures don't have to be life like...John Wilson, draws characters with his left hand, so they deliberately look childish, and he's in some pretty major galleries in the UK...
I've got a really scratchy/sketchy style.....just play to your strengths....I love collage cos most people stop doing it at junior school, so you don't have any self imposed rules of how you're supposed to go about it
Right hereI wouldn't know where to start.
Yes, it most certainly can be learned!-- see below....

Banksy starts with a 'W', then take away the 'B' and the 's'.
No, Fibonacci works with me. Something to do with catering for OCD and neatness and order.
Colour, on the other hand, appears to be seen through the eyes of a dog, which have lesser of a range than humans.
But you must be careful of the sting in the tail when criticising art, as beauty is in the eye of the bee holder.
I have that book. Not looked at it in years.Yes, it most certainly can be learned!-- see below....

Ooooh, I get my stuff from Cass Art when I'm down that way. The art shop here in Ely is pretty pants.
"Learn to Paint" by Alwyn Crawshaw is a pretty good source as well - covers all the major paint mediums. Alas, it disappeared from my local library a couple of years ago and I haven't managed to find a copy.
I'm self-taught. Went to an all girls school and I kind of got ignored in art lessons because "girls don't draw / paint cars"...
