It just seems like a faff for the sake of filling in a form every ten years. As much as I'm not into ID cards it's useful when I have to pick up parcels from the Post Office. And hiring cars and travelling abroad is going to be difficult without the photocard.
Post Office don't need photo ID, I collect all my parcels by waving a credit card at them to prove who I am. I rented a car in the States last year with my old driving license and a passport, no hassle, likewise in the UK. I've driven through Europe without any issue on using an old license, although the German policeman did whinge a bit that it was a tad lacy after pulling me over and drug testing me at 3am.
As I say, no hassle and I'm not paying out £70 (or whatever it is) to replace it every decade, or forgetting like a chunk of people in the UK have so far and are driving around illegally thanks to the fact that their driving licenses now need renewing in a way their old ones never did.
