Is it the teachers or is it the rules? Have you tried being a teacher, you may be suprised but not all children/teenagers are perfect.
Wife is a teacher so I think we have a fair idea . I also teach part time to young adults .

You should try getting mock exam results out of eldest secondary school. Has to be an adult who receives them.

That's very slightly bizarre given that the actual exam results will be given to the student themselves.

Get her to do a Data Protection Act Subject Access Request asking for the results, and also meanwhile do an FOI asking for the rationale on which that policy is based.

It won't actually help as such but it may wind the school up a bit and make you feel better

We emailed the school telling them that that it is not in their policy or newham education policy so results are to be given to her.

Nope a shitty email saying has to be given to responsible adult.

Then today daughter gets given a letter saying as results have been available for 4 days and she hasn't collected she will lose behaviour points as she obviously doesn't care about her education. This is the girl who asked school about college fairs and dates at start of academic year and was told will be a college fair on results week. She got off her backside and contacted colleges , which was a good job as lots close applications in December.

I Went to warp factor 10 and am ready to poke the results envelope up the phase leaders arris.

I called her cousin. 18 years old for 2 days. Asked if she would go and collect.

They gave the results to her FFS .

I am not a happy bunny at moment.

A stressed teen is now in bits and is demoralised to point she says she can't be bothered with exams in June .

Useless secondary school teachers.

Just to check I understand, the school are going to punish a child for not picking up the results they have refused to give her.

A pal of mine was called to school as his boy had bashed his head. Fair enough, he turns up to fetch him home only to be informed that if he took the boy home, he'd be marked as absent without leave (or whatever the phrase was). He called their bluff and said "OK, he's your responsibility -are you going to take him to hospital?"

There's just no respect for teachers these days !

No they could not be bothered with me, I was very much an unwanted child who came along much to late in their life.

I had a mess of a childhood as well, one good thing that came out of it all was I vowed to do the best I can for my own children. I suspect you have the same view ;).

Why?

We have a resilient teen who was close to tipping it bollox to GCSE later this year due to the frankly appalling attitude by the SLT (senior leadership team) . We have managed to bring her round to realising SHE hasn't done anything wrong

Have had several grovelly calls today so far , but no actual answers.

What happens next year when it happens to another teen without parental support and they do tip it . Another scrounger for people to whinge at ? Another homeless person on streets ? Who knows ? But we might be able to stop a stupid policy .

By asking for the FOI we can see if it was approved by the governors and is policy or if it's " policy" by a crap decision.

If it's a real policy then the LEA need to know and stop that sort of crap .

I had parents that didn't give a stuff about me as a kid. That's not happening with mine.

Much as I suspect you would do with yours.

Edit . Hmmm keithmac seems to think similar ...

My point is schools do not need winding up, they need sorting out if there is a problem.

I got expelled from school in February 1972, 20 years later I was a parent governorate at my son's school, mainly because I was not happy with a few things going on at the school my youngest went too.

Two of my boys have degree's and a master's, both funnily in education. The third son owns a plumbing business in the South Of France, so yes we did give them far more than my rubbish parents gave me.

Help the schools they need it.

Or you (or your wife) could have made more of an effort to pick the results up. If your daughter was in as much of a state as you say she was, I'm amazed that something couldn't give from your side.

Yeah as a teacher my wife can just walk out of school to pick things up . Same as me I can just walk out of my job to get to school between 9 and 3.30 when I am the other end of the country .

You utter prat .
