pedal assist sensor

hi i have just put a five magnet pedal assist on and when you pedal the bike forward it turns the motor on as it should and when you pedal backwards it also turns the motor on I also tried it with a twelve magnet one and it did the exact same can anyone help me this is the controller it’s connected to could it be because I havnt put brake levers with electric cut out on any help would be greatly appreciated as it’s puzzling me now

Does the bike go backwards when you pedal backwards?

Done a quick search and found technically it should not be able to do that, it either goes forward or reverse not both, so it could be a wiring problem.
It can't be the brakes levers as mine are not fitted.

no the bike goes forward still when you pedal backwards

ive heard of dual hall sensors that can detect when the bike is pedalled backwards some how helps to stop it
